How to set up Multi-Factor Authentication for the VPN
Beyond Support Network requires Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) when connecting to the VPN remotely. You will be required to download the Watchguard Authpoint app on your cell phone in order to complete MFA and connect to the VPN. Follow the steps below to get started.
- The BSN IT Department will create a VPN account (username) for you. You will then receive an automated email from WatchGuard asking you to create a password. Select the 'Create Password' button in the email to begin. Follow the on-screen instructions.
NOTE: If you ever forget your VPN password, IT can send you an email to create a new one.
2. After you have successfully created a VPN Password, you will need to activate your account prior to logging into the VPN for the first time. You will receive a second automated email from Watchgaurd to activate your account. Select the 'Start Activation' button and follow the on-screen instructions.
3. After starting the activation, you will see the screen blow. Download the appropriate version of the 'Watchguard AuthPoint' App for your cell phone by using either the 'Get it on Google Play' button for Android devices or the 'Download on the App Store' for iOS Apple Devices.
4. Once you have the 'Watchguard AuthPoint' app installed on your cell phone, open the app to complete the authorization process.
5. To complete the authorization, you can scan the QR code contained in the email sent directly to you (do NOT use the QR code in the example below) or open the authorization email on your cell phone and select the 'Authorize' button contained in the email.
6. You have successfully completed the authorization of your VPN account.
7. To connect to the VPN, open the 'Watchguard Mobile VPN' app on your laptop and enter your VPN username and password create in Step 2. When you enter your VPN username and password to connect, Watchguard sends a "Push" notification to your cell phone to approve (or deny) the VPN login.
8. Open the 'Watchguard AuthPoint' app on your cell phone and approve the login to complete the VPN sign-in process.
9. Your laptop should now be connected to the VPN.
